Sally’s Cosmetic Dentistry Drama

I play tennis with a group of friends every Wednesday. I was introduced to the event by another friend from school who played there as well. The season follows the school holidays; whenever schools out for the primary kids, we take a break too. “Rough Diamonds” was our name. It felt good being part of a team again; I missed playing in my school team. I was the youngest out of all of us, being 20. Our oldest member, Dave, was 50, around my Dad’s age. He couldn’t move fast, but he had skill.

This story is based on the captain of my team. She was slaughter me if she knew I was writing about her, so I’m not going to mention her name too much. She works at WalMart even though she has a degree in Nutritional Science and plays tennis with us to unwind. We always commented on how good she looked, physically She got so much attention because she was pretty toned, despite not going to the gym at all.

After the Winter season, I came back to play and greeted my team. When I turned to my captain, I couldn’t help but let my jaw fall slightly. I closed it promptly when she noticed and said, “I undertook some cosmetic dentistry procedures to fix my underbite.” To draw attention away from my red face, I told her, “yeah, it looks nice, but why did you do it?”

My captain went on to explain that her underbite had been troubling her for the last decade or so, since she was a teen. Apparently, her underbite was inherited from her Dad. With particular words, her tongue would hit the roof of her mouth. I never actually noticed.

When she ate, she also had trouble chewing, since her bottom molars were so far in front. Me and another fella on my team, John, thought that she looked better before. She seemed offended and said, “I didn’t do it for cosmetic reasons.” She’d made that clear, but she did look quite different. We got used to her new appearance and over time, we forgot what she looked like prior to the surgery.

Her underbite is no longer a problem to her. She can speak and eat fine. She’s happy and we’re happy for her. She said that doing the cosmetic dentistry surgery was one of the best decisions she’s ever made.
